Steve Martin Reveals How He Can Get Selena Gomez & Taylor Swift On Screen Together (Exclusive)
Selena Gomez will never slow down her etiquette.
The Rare singer and fiancé, Benny Blanco, recently reflected on the ways they’ve shown up for their friend Taylor Swift—including the time they appeared at one of her after parties a bit too early.
“As a couple we went to Taylor’s party after some awards show,” Selena, 32, said on the March 19 episode of Spotify’s Countdown To series, joking their timely attendance “mortified” her at the time. “I don’t know, it was kind of cute. Apparently cool people don’t show up to parties on time.”
Benny, 37, then shared that being punctual has become an important part of their relationship, saying, “We’re the first people at every single party when I go with you.”
While the Only Murders in the Building actor is embarrassed by that moment, Taylor hasn’t shied away from being the first person to publicly support Selena in recent years. In fact, the Tortured Poets Department singer, 35, congratulated the duo on their engagement last December, sweetly confirming that she’ll be Selena’s flower girl at the wedding.
As for Benny and Selena, the engaged couple—who are releasing their joint album, I Said I Love You First, on March 21—also reminisced on the early days of their romance in the interview, revealing they first became comfortable with each other at their now shared home in California.
“We kept our…whatever it was—relationship or getting to know each other—in privacy,” Selena explained. “And [our home] is where we first started connecting, where we had our first kiss, and where we made the album.”

Benny added that working on the amorous record in their home was “special,” as they could bond in their studio one moment then comfortably relax elsewhere. He specifically noted that balance allowed Selena to open up more, and that vulnerability can be seen in the forthcoming project’s lyrics.
“I felt like your personal journal,” the producer continued. “I was constantly writing whatever you said, wherever we are. I don’t know if you realized, but I would always open up my phone and be like, ‘F--k, that’s such a good line for a song.’”
