Tiger Woods will likely miss the Masters, the first major tournament of the PGA season, after he revealed that he’s recovering from surgery for a ruptured Achilles.
Tiger Woods Shares His Mom Kultida Woods Has Died
Tiger Woods’ competitive season isn’t quite on par.
The 49-year-old recently shared that he underwent surgery for a ruptured Achilles after training at home.
“As I began to ramp up my own training and practice at home, I felt a sharp pain in my left Achilles, which was deemed to be ruptured,” the 18-time PGA tour champion wrote on X (formally known as Twitter) March 12. “This morning, Dr. Charlton Stucken of Hospital for Special Surgery in West Palm Beach, Florida performed a minimally-invasive Achilles tendon repair for a ruptured tendon.”
Tiger went on to note that his doctor confirmed “the surgery went smoothly, and we expect a full recovery.”
He added, “I am back home now and plan to focus on my recovery and rehab, thank you for all the support.”
Tiger—who is the father of Sam, 17, and Charlie, 16, with ex-wife Elin Nordegren—did not go into further detail about a timeline for his return. The 2025 Masters Tournament is set to take place April 11-14 at the Augusta National Golf Course in Augusta, Georgia.
The TGR Foundation founder has had previous surgeries to repair his Achilles in the past. In 2010, he revealed that he tore
his right Achilles tendon in 2008 and again in 2009. However, he continued to play that season.
In 2023, Tiger also had a subtalar fusion procedure to address arthritis in his right ankle, that was caused by his 2021 car accident—that left him with severe injuries to his leg.

Tiger’s procedure comes as his most recent golf season has also been met with setbacks. In February, the championship golfer withdrew from the Genesis Invitational in Pacific Palisades, Calif after experiencing “flu-like symptoms,” NBC News reported at the time.
Following his decision to withdraw from the tournament, Tiger’s manager Rob McNamara reiterated that the athlete’s exit wasn’t due to a physical injury, telling Barstool Sports, "His back's fine."
The same month, Tiger announced the death of his mother Kultida Woods, who died at the age of 81 on Feb. 4. While sharing the news of her death, Tiger spoke about her support throughout his storied career.
“My Mom was a force of nature all her own, her spirit was simply undeniable,” the statement on X read. “She was quick with the needle and a laugh. She was my biggest fan, greatest supporter, without her none of my personal achievements would have been possible.”
