Oscar Nominations 2025: Ariana Grande, Selena Gomez, Angelina Jolie and More Snubs and Surprises

And here are the nominees…

After the Los Angeles wildfires delayed the initial date set for the 2025 Oscar nominations announcement, Saturday Night Live’s Bowen Yang and Bottoms star Rachel Sennott revealed who will be honored across 23 categories in a Jan. 23 livestream telecast.

The 97th Academy Awards ceremony, which will be hosted by Conan O’Brien, is set to honor the year's most outstanding performances—from Timothée Chalamet to Ariana Grande—as well ten films in the prestigious Best Picture category—including The Brutalist, The Substance, Wicked, Nickel Boys, A Complete Unknown and more.

The 2025 Oscar nominations come amid a difficult time for Hollywood. Earlier this month, the Los Angeles wildfires devastated much of the California city—including the home of Billy Crystal, who hosted the Oscars in 1988 and 1998. At the time, the Academy issued a statement reflecting on those who had been affected by the devastation.

“The Academy’s thoughts and deepest condolences are with those who have been impacted by the Los Angeles-area wildfires,” the Academy said in a Jan. 10 statement. “We stand united with the Motion Picture Television Fund to support our industry.”

The organization concluded their post by offering a list of relief resources, and asking the public to donate what they can to those in need

Each year, the Oscars honor the best performances across the big screen. In 2024, Emma Stone and Cillian Murphy nabbed some of the night’s biggest honors for Actress in a Leading Role and Actor in a Leading Role. Meanwhile, Oppenheimer made it onto the shortlist of the most decorated movies of all time by winning seven awards at the ceremony. (The most awarded films include 2003’s Lord of The Rings: Return of the King, 1997’s Titanic, and 1959’s Ben-Hur, all with 11 awards, respectively.)

The 2025 Oscars is already posed to be a memorable one. For one, horror movies like The Substance have only been nominated six times in the ceremony’s history, and the Coralie Fargeat film earned a whopping five nominations, including Best Picture. Meanwhile, movie musicals like Emilia Pérez and Wicked, though not quite as rare, are also often shut out of nominations—but each film earned respective nods in nearly every category.

This year’s actor categories also include surprises like Wicked’s Grande and The Substance’s Demi Moore earning their first-ever nominations. And while Chalamet earned a Best Actor nod for his role in A Complete Unknown, he has been up for the Best Actor in a Leading Role only once before for Call Me By Your Name in 2018, and he was bested by The Darkest Hour star Gary Oldman that year.

And while film lovers will have to wait until the March 2 ceremony to see who brings home the night’s biggest honors, as the saying goes, it is certainly an honor just to be nominated. Keep reading for every star who received the accolade…

Zoe Saldaña

“I don’t think I can properly express the deep levels of gratitude and joy I feel for the recognition Emilia Pérez has been given," the actress, who starred in the Jacques Audiard film alongside Karla Sofía Gascón. "Being part of the beautiful family Jacques created was a dream and every single person involved poured their love into telling this powerful story. I’m especially grateful to Karla, whose bravery and talent brought so much depth and authenticity to Emilia. It’s a bittersweet moment as our community in Los Angeles is processing the heartbreaking losses from the ongoing fires - homes, schools, businesses and entire neighborhoods. My heart is with all those affected and I’m sending endless love and appreciation to our fearless first responders and everyone working to help rebuild our city.”

“To be back again at the Oscar nominations table is truly meaningful to me, especially for the work that Sing Sing represents," the actor shared. "Work which truly hopes to shine bright loving light into dark places by using art. I am so thrilled for our company which also received nominations for adapted screenplay and original song. All of that work is so tender and hopeful just like our film. I couldn’t be prouder as an actor or producer."

I’m so grateful to Adam Graves and Suchitra Mattai for inviting me and Kaling International on this journey. I also don’t sleep so it was nice to actually be doing something fun at 5:30 this morning. I should get that checked out!”

"Truly there are no words to fully express my joy and overwhelming gratitude for this recognition. Not only for me but for what this film represents. I am deeply humbled. This is a time of incredible contrasts and right now, my heart is with my friends, family, neighbors, and community here in LA.  The fires have devastated so many lives but to see the way our community has united leaves me in awe of the resilience and compassion that defines us, and this moment is a reminder of how incredible we are when we stand together."
