Oscars 2025: Adrien Brody Refuses to Cut His Acceptance Speech Short

Adrien Brody Shouts Out Georgina Chapman, Harvey Weinstein’s Kids After Win

Adrien Brody didn't let the pianist play him off.

After The Brutalist star won Best Actor at the 2025 Oscars, he refused to end his acceptance speech until he was done, going so far as to tell the in-house orchestra to stop playing music midway through his remarks. (See all of the night’s big winners here.)

"I’m wrapping up. Please. Please. I will wrap up," Brody—who had previously won Best Actor for The Pianist in 2003—pleaded as he blew past the suggested 45-second time limit. "Please turn the music off. I’ve done this before. It’s not my first rodeo. I will be brief."

Ultimately, the 51-year-old would go on for a full five minutes—or 558 words—making it one of the longest acceptance speeches in Oscars history.

"One thing that I’ve gained, having the privilege to come back here—is to have some perspective," Brody said during his speech. "No matter where you are in your career, no matter what you’ve accomplished, it can all go away. And I think what makes this night most special is the awareness of that."

"It is a chance to begin again," he continued. "And the opportunity to hopefully be fortunate enough that for the next 20 years of my life, I can prove that I am worthy of such meaningful, important and relevant roles."

Brody—who became the first person to ever win two Best Actor Oscars from their first two nominations—went on to reflect on the twenty-two years that have passed since his first win.

"Winning an award like this it signifies a destination," he shared, "and it's something my character references in the film but to me it also beyond the pinnacle of a career. It is a chance to begin again and the opportunity to hopefully be fortunate enough for that the next 20 years of my life that I can prove that I am worthy of such meaningful and important and relevant roles."

The Grand Budapest Hotel actor also made sure to thank his loved ones, including his mother, father and girlfriend Georgina Chapman.

“I share this with my amazing partner Georgina,” he gushed, “who has not only reinvigorated my own self-worth, but my sense of value and my values.”

Brody also shared a message for Chapman's children with ex Harvey Weinstein.

Dash and India, I know it's been a roller coaster, but thank you for accepting me into your life," Brody said. “Popsie’s coming home a winner.”
