Kelly Stafford Shares Update on Kids' Hospitalization Ahead of Husband Matthew Stafford’s Game
Matthew Stafford is excited to make another touchdown in the Gold Coast.
Nearly three weeks after the Los Angeles Rams quarterback confirmed he’d be staying in California for another season, Stafford revealed how speculations that he’d be traded to a different team affected his family.
“I wasn’t a free agent,” Matthew said in the March 12 episode of Travis and Jason Kelce’s New Heights podcast, adding his decision to revise his contract with the L.A. team—who he originally signed with in 2021—was a “joint process.” “But there were some trade rumors that [were] a little bit tough on the family, because you don’t know what’s going to be next.”
Those trade rumors started earlier last month, with Matthew’s name being floated between the New York Giants and the Las Vegas Raiders. The 37-year-old never confirmed the alleged negotiations, but his wife Kelly Stafford—mom to their 7-year-old twin daughters Chandler and Sawyer, Hunter, 6, and Tyler, 4—admitted on her The Morning After podcast at the time that she’d be “good” if her husband had interest in another team.
But now, Matthew’s proven his loyalty lies with the Rams. In fact, he reflected on his family’s move to California after his 11 years with the Detroit Lions, detailing what he was looking for beyond just life in a new locker room.“
I can’t tell you how much time I spent on Zillow looking at houses,” the NFL star continued. “You’re just sitting there like, ‘Man, where am I going to be? Where are the kids gonna go to school?’ [This recent time] was a little bit of a similar situation. But in the end, I know [the Rams] wanted me back and I wanted to be back—we just had to figure that out and we did.”
Matthew then gushed over his decision, saying, “I’m sure as hell happy that I’m gonna be here for at least another year and hopefully some after that.”

This wasn’t the only time the quarterback’s future in the NFL seemed a bit foggy, as he also faced retirement rumors earlier this year. But
Kelly denied the speculation, revealing her husband wants to flaunt his jersey for another season.
“He wants to play again,” the 35-year-old told E! News in February, adding that she and the kids would always support him in any decision he made about his career. “He wants it to be a group decision. And I look at him and I say, ‘This is your decision. If I ever thought that I needed you to retire, then I would let you know, but I want you to have the option.’”
