Oscars 2025: Shocking Wins, Viral Performances & More Must See Moments

Mikey Madison must feel like a billionaire.

The Anora star had an emotional reaction after winning the trophy for Best Actress during the 2025 Oscars—hosted by Conan O’Brien March 2 at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles—and beating out predicted winner Demi Moore.

“Thank you so much to the Academy,” Mikey, who was admittedly nervous, said while reading from her printed speech. “I grew up in Los Angeles, but Hollywood always felt so far away from me. So, to be here standing in this room today is really incredible.”

The 25-year-old—who was also nominated alongside Fernanda Torres, Cynthia Erivo and Karla Sofía Gascón—made sure to share her appreciation for her fellow nominees, too. (Click here to see the full list of 2025 Oscar winners.)

“I just want to recognize the thoughtful, intelligent, beautiful, breathtaking work of my fellow nominees,” she continued. “I'm honored to be recognized alongside all of you. This is a dream come true.”

Mikey—who won the BAFTA Film Award last month—also shouted out those who supported her leading up to Hollywood’s biggest night.

Thank you to my incredible family,” she said. “My mom and my dad and my sister and my little brother and my twin brother, Miles. Thank you for being my best friend, not that you have a choice.”

In addition to her family, the Scream alum took time to reflect on the sex worker community that influenced her portrayal of Ani in Anora, which also won Best Picture, beating out The Brutalist, A Complete Unknown, Conclave, Dune: Part Two, Emilia Pérez, I'm Still Here, Nickel Boys, The Substance and Wicked.

“I also just want to recognize and honor the sex worker community,” she shared. “I will continue to support and be an ally all of the incredible people, the women that I've had the privilege of meeting from that community has been one of the highlights of this entire incredible experience.”

Though Demi was a frontrunner for the award—having won the leading actress Golden Globe, SAG Award and Critics Choice Award for her performance in The Substance—Mikey had been vocal ahead of the 97th Oscars about the honor of even being nominated for her work in Anora.

“It's kind of hard to put into words because it's so meaningful to be nominated by your peers, in an industry that I love so much and admire,” she told People in an interview published Feb. 16. “So, it's kind of a dream come true in lots of ways."

She added, “Very surreal as well. But it means the world to me. I love my film, Anora. It's always been a very special project to me. And so, for it to be recognized and at a scale like this is, it's amazing.”
