Kate Cassidy “Still Working on Accepting” Boyfriend Liam Payne's Death

Kate Cassidy is still making her way through the dark.

The girlfriend of the late Liam Payne shared some insight into how she's handling the grieving process nearly five months after his shocking death at the age of 31, revealing that she struggles with thinking about him as part of her past.

"I find myself talking about him so much in the present tense, and it's something where I don't feel the need to correct myself because I still can't fully...that's part of my healing journey," Kate said on the March 5 episode of British morning show Lorraine. "I'm still working on accepting the fact that he's not here anymore, so it's hard for me to refer to him in the past tense, and when I do refer to him in the past tense, it almost stings that little bit more. It's more official."

"I never would've thought that I would be talking about him in the past tense," she added, "so it's definitely really hard to accept."

The 25-year-old added that processing the One Direction singer's passing has been "really hard" for her, but she's been able to find some solace in the fact that Liam was beloved by so many people around the world.

"I've never lost anybody before close to me, so this is kind of my first time dealing with anything like this and going through this grief and healing journey," Kate explained. "I know I'm not alone in this. So many people have so much love for Liam, and I've said this prior, but he has impacted so many people in this world in so many positive ways."

She added that seeing the grief pour in from fans all over the world "really just shows how much of an impact he had throughout his life." That knowledge, coupled with support from her own loved ones, has helped her make it through the time since his tragic death.

"I am trying to do my best," Kate said. "I have my better days, I have my harder days, but I am surrounded by such a great support system that I cannot thank enough. Having [our dog] Nala around obviously, as well, has helped me so much with my healing journey, and I just couldn't thank everybody enough, all my friends, my family, just for being there for me and being so supportive."

And the influencer is also trying to make sure that she stays active and doesn't just wallow at home in her grief.

“I really am trying to be as productive as I can with not just being stuck in my bedroom all day," Kate explained. "Doing small things like yoga, going for a long walk…I’m trying my best to do that."

She went on to say that she'll "always have so much love" for the "Strip That Down" singer and reflected on the positivity he brought to every situation.

"He really was one of a kind," Kate shared. "He would

light up any room he walked into, and he had this sense of humor where he just really could make anything better. His presence was just comforting and warming, and that's something that I'll never forget about him, ever."

Liam—who shared son Bear, 5, with ex Cheryl Cole—also rubbed off on Kate in ways that have helped her get through this difficult moment, where everyone wants to weigh-in on how she's dealing with his death.

"He's, in a way, guided me so much," she mused. "He taught me to have thick skin and that people are going to say different things and that people are going to have different opinions and to not let anybody's opinion get to me as he never really let it get to him. He really did teach me how to stay strong."
