The Daily Show host called out Musk's bluff and said he would be "delighted" to have him on the show
Brandishing his newly-healed hand on Monday after an eventful last week, Jon Stewart officially invited Elon Musk for an interview on The Daily Show after the Tesla billionaire said he would only go on if it “airs unedited.”
After unveiling his new sippy cup replacement of his “World’s Most Dad” mug that shattered during last week’s episode, Stewart addressed his “bit of a critique” of Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) that elicited Musk’s challenge.
After reminding Musk “that’s actually how the in-studio interviews normally air. Unedited,” Stewart said the program would be “delighted” to have him stop by for a chat. “As a matter of fact, let me sweeten or unsweeten the pot. The interview can be 15 minutes, an hour, two hours, whatever,” said the late-night host. “I’ll be honest, I don’t think this network makes any other programming. So we can do whatever the fuck we want.”
Stewart then called
out Musk’s claims on X that the host was “more a propagandist than it would seem” and “used to be more bipartisan.”
“You give me too little credit,” joked Stewart. “The guy who custom-made his own dark MAGA hat that he wears to opine in the Oval Office with the president who he spent $270 million to elect thinks I’m just too partisan. I’m really not sure what he thinks bipartisan means.”
Stewart emphasized that he supported “the idea of efficiency and delivering better services to the American public in cheaper and more efficient ways,” and said whether Musk wanted to talk about it on the show or not was fine either way. However, Stewart demanded that Musk be real with the American people. “Can we just drop the pretense that you won’t do it because I don’t measure up to the standards of neutral discourse that you demand and display at all times?” said the host. “Because, quite frankly, that’s embarrassing… Bullshit.”
